Due to the overwhelming queries we had on our last article, I thought I would put some information together on what our weight loss/healthier you program is all about.

We are all living in a stressful society. There never seems to be enough time in the day to do the things we need to do.
We all know we are living in stressful lives but are you fully aware to how destructive chronic stress is to your health?
Modern day stress is more physiological rather than physical. It is more pervasive, persistent and insidious.
It is associated with immediate reactions which we have no control over due to the fact that they were designed for a
beneficial purpose in the body.
Predator Mode
Think back to your school days of learning all about fight and flight. This is what the body had in mind when it was thinking of stressful situations.
When our forefathers had to fight or flee a predator the following “benefits” occurred:
- Heart rate and blood pressure increased to increase flow of blood to the brain and muscles
- Blood sugar levels increase to give fuel for energy
- Blood is shunted away from the gut where digestion is not a priority and sent to the large muscles of the arms and legs to provide strength to fight the predator
- Clotting occurs to prevent blood loss from lacerations encountered in the battle
- Immune system is activated in case of an injury to prevent infection setting in.
Modern Mode
What is happening to the body now is that we do not need to go out to battle for food or to save our village.
Our stress battles are happening everyday in the form of traffic jams, late for picking the children up from school,
deadlines to be met, and battling with the mortgage, divorce and the list goes on. The unfortunate fact is that our bodies
are still responding to these stresses the same way it has for millions of years and the effects on our bodies is the same as the
above “benefits” of fleeing an attacker but our response is more along the line of: blood sugar levels rise, inflammation increases,
blood becomes thick and sticky and we seem to catch every cough and cold doing the rounds.
Cortisol Connection
This is where the cortisol connection comes into play. Cortisol is the main culprit with our stress-related maladies.
The stress hormones of cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenalin are triggered into action by the adrenal glands.
The pituitary gland responds with its hormones and the sympathetic nervous system comes into play as well.
Over time, the continual stress reactions placed on the body has long-lasting consequences.
Chronic stress leaves the body with chronic excess of cortisol levels that cause high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety,
depression, anger, and a depressed immune system. With cortisol excess our bodies are tired, fatigued and feeling
completely out of sync in life. Cortisol can be toxic to our brain cells if too much has been circulating for too long,
hence the lack of ability to concentrate.
The response to the consequences mentioned above causes us to respond to the stressful situation is ways that are only going to aggravate the problem.
Too many of us reach for the morning coffee, turning into 5 coffees in order to get through the day.
The body craves carbohydrates for quick energy which only adds to the increased blood sugar levels and resulting cortisol levels.
Smoking, coffee, alcohol, lack of exercise, and insufficient sleep all add to increased cortisol levels.
This is why you may be putting on weight and finding it difficult to lose the weight. This is a vicious cycle that needs to be broken.
Our on-line weight loss program assesses your main target areas that need to be addressed.
You pay a fee once only. For that fee you will receive a 40-50 page program tailored for you.
It will include foods to eat (in order to break the cortisol connection cycle), what you should be decreasing in your diet,
healthy recipes, exercise program, any information on relevant conditions you may be suffering from (e.g. cholesterol),
and any supplements that you may benefit from. You will also be able to ring or email for one year from inception of your
program on any questions you may have in relation to your program. This will be a program you will use and refer to for the
next 6-12 months. It is intended as a change in the way you approach food and adapt habits that will then be habit forming:
for the good of your health.
